How It Works

Enter a start time and end time, optionally subtract breaks, and the tool converts everything to decimal hours — the format most payroll systems use. The calculator handles overnight shifts by adding 24 hours when the end time falls before the start time.

Example

Start at 08:30, finish at 17:45, take a 45-minute lunch break. The tool shows 8h 30m of work, or 8.50 decimal hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this tool include lunch or break time?

Yes. Add break minutes in the dedicated field and they are subtracted from total hours automatically.

Can I calculate multiple days at once?

This version calculates one day at a time. For multi-day totals, add up the daily hours separately.

Does it handle overnight shifts?

Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, it counts the shift as spanning into the next calendar day.
